So Basil died today. I’m sad. He was a nice little life. Now we’re ratless!!! I used to open his cage and put my face close to it, and he’d come out just far enough to sniff my face, or my hands if my hands were there, but he never liked to come out very much. He was afraid of the cats. Nicodemus didn’t care, he’d chase them in his little ferret ball. Both of them loved soda crackers. I;d put one through the bars and one would snatch it out of my hand and go to his favourite spot and munch it all away. I love their little hands, so perfect for holding seeds and crackers. Basil wasn’t eating much this last week, and spent several days on the bottom floor of his condo, because he couldn’t get up to the top floor. We had to take out the ladders because the two of them got so round in the belly. Yesterday Basil went up to the top, so he could be in his box. It was his favourite spot of the moment, since he could hide from kitten-stares in there. I checked on him this morning, and he ate his little treat. I suppose that it was time, I mean Basil was nearly two years old, and that’s pretty old for a rat. Bah. *cries*. I hate losing pets. Anyway, here’s to another awesome rat. Rest in peace Basil. I hope you find Nicodemus whereever you went.
