lyrics, meme hell

Ok, since I really have nothing intelligent to say I’m going to do a meme i saw on Elizabeth Bear’s journal… a couple of times now actually, but the latest is here

Put your music player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

It’s a strange day

keep the noise low
momentary sensory promises
before I can open my all too eager eyes
I feel a little bit left of centre

god sometimes you just don’t come through
I haven’t ever really found a place to call home
blind talking (blind talking)
oh, life is bigger, it’s bigger than you

it was me on that road, but you couldn’t see me
you believe in what nobody else does
see the stone set in your eyes
inside you’re pretending

let’s lie and say it’s alright
I’ve been alone for so long
not that I’m that hard to please;
there’s not enough, enough love

the failing sky grows darker every day
I know that I’ve been mad in love before
follow me into deeper waters
I lost my friend

Goldfrapp – Utopia

Brand New – Sic Transit Gloria…Glory Fades
Kosheen – Out of this World
Emiliana Torrini – Fingertips
Thornley – So Far So Good

Tori Amos – God
Dido – Life For Rent
Moby – Lift Me Up
REM – Losing My Religion

Royksopp – What Else Is There?
Matt Mays – When Angels Make Contact
U2 – With or Without You
Portishead – Mysterons

Hawksley Workman – Piano Blink
Stabbing Westward – Waking up Beside You
Delerium – Stopwatch Hearts
Kosheen – Not Enough Love

Ferry Corsten – Holding On
Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy
Balligomingo – Lust
Holly McNarland – Water

meme hell, Yes I did these things

Monday Mission a day late, but who’d really reading this?

1. Has anyone ever told you that you needed to lose weight or change something about yourself physically? Who told you and what impact did it have on your life? Your perception of yourself? Yes actually. I was told by the head of our company that I should dress better. Have been told numerous times by my boss that I should start to wear make up. In school I was always asked why I never ‘did anything’ to my hair and why I wore ‘hand-me-downs’. Get this, I was wearing a suit the day I was told I should dress better. A suit from his company no less. What does he want me to do, dress like madonna? As for the make up, I don’t wear it because a) I don’t think I need it, b) even if I did I’d not be able to get close enough to the mirror without my glasses to see what I was doing and c) I’d most likely break out and who likes a zit-face?. When I was in school, comments like that really used to aggravate me. Now, when someone makes a comment it just makes me think how sad it is that they have to occupy their time with my appearance.

2. Do enjoy the snow and cold weather? If it would snow, then maybe. I do like to snuggle under blankets tho.

3. Visualize the perfect winter evening. Are you alone or with someone? How does the evening start? How does it end, and everything in-between. Right now it involves snuggling under some blankets in front of a fireplace with John and some good wine.

4. Do you think that technology has had allowed relationships and human interaction to become less personal? Is this a good thing? On the one hand I think that it’s good that communication is happening at all, I mean some people are so bad at doing it in person that the electronic age has made them better able to do so. On the other hand, I do think that the personal aspect is starting to be missed.

5. Is there anything you’ve been meaning to learn, that you can learn, but haven’t? (or maybe you have?) to sew. Mom has this great talent when it comes to sewing and I simply have not even tried hard enough.

6. What skills or talents have you wished that you possessed that you most likely never will? Are you content with that? Numbers. My memory for numbers and mathematical stuff just does not exist. I’m ok with it, because I have other talents, but it would be nice if I could remember my 12 times tables more often.

7. What do you think of the concept of “AudioBlogs?” Would you like to hear the voice of your favorite bloggers occasionally? Would you rather listen to or read your favorite Blogs? I’d rather read. I am far too visual for an audio blog to please my senses.

BONUS: How deep is your love? Don’t think I’ve hit bottom yet. I’ll let you know.

Trust Cosmo:

Even though, apparently, I am a:

Simmering Seductress
For you to feel passionate about anything — from slowly biting into a decadent piece of chocolate to sharing a heady convo with a guy at a party — your senses must be engaged. “You’re extremely in touch with what turns you on both mentally and physically, and you can find even the simplest things intriguing,” says Logan Levkoff, a certified sex educator in New York City.

That’s why you don’t feel compelled to leap from one supercharged event to the next. “You know you can be a passionate person but still incorporate balance in your life,” says Nancy Rosenbach, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist in New York City and Long Island. “One day you might feel like going skydiving, but another day, you’d be just as happy chilling out at home with a big, juicy novel and a glass of wine.”

This article doesn’t top that one Valentines day when the bf of the time took me to see Blair Witch project, then had to call someone else and beg for a ride because the movie ran longer than he thought and there was no bus. Then the two guys proceeded to rent porn and expected me to watch it with them. Shocking that I decided I didn’t want to be there. I threatened to walk the couple of clicks home and refused to sleep with him that night. Finally someone volunteered to give me a ride home. (ty glyn) No roses, no chocolates, I don’t even remember if there was a card.

Wednesday Mind Hump – Week 41

It’s Hump Day again — isn’t that electrifying? It should be especially since today is Electricity Day which commemorates Benjamin Franklin’s historic kite flight waaaaaay back in 1752. What a shocking discovery! *rolls eyes* Hmmmm, kite, key, storm … sounds like Ol’ Ben could have easily joined our crazy clique. Maybe what they say is true … “There’s a fine line between genius and insanity.” Hey! Does that mean we’re all borderline geniuses? Woo Hoo!

Yes, yes this must be true, for I do believe I’m borderline something… 😉

Let’s charge our minds with a little pre-humping action — Tell us about a memorable shocking (or odd, interesting, valuable) discovery. Example: Mom lied. No matter how many goofy faces I make my face will NOT get stuck like that forever. Or — if you wrap celery in aluminum foil it will stay fresh and crispy for weeks. Or — Trix really ARE for kids!. You get the point.

When I made the discovery, I was about 9, so it went something like: expectations are a waste of time. To avoid disappointment, don’t form them. I’d gone to a birthday party that I’d been excited about all week. It was my first party at a popular girls house. My social status was about to change. I was going to wow them etc etc. Turns out I was invited merely because everyone had. There were no goody bags and it basically sucked. All the little scenarios I’d played in my head all week never came to fruition. I’ve since modified the rule to: Unrealistic expectations are a waste of time. Now I reserve judgment of a situation until I actually am there.

Here we go — ladies and gentleman, start your humps. This week, some “getting to know you fun” with a wittle wobble.

01. If you had an off/on switch, what would you want it to switch off/on instantly?

my logic switch. Since I’m too scattered to actually formulate a coherent argument on the fly, I’d like to be able to turn that ability on when I needed it and off when I don’t so that I can enjoy my usual quirky self.

02. Your favorite celebrity will be knocking on your door in exactly one minute. Considering you only have one minute, what would you do before you answer the door and how would you greet them?

Right now I’d take out all the garbage that’s been sitting by the door since last night and close the bedroom door so that they don’t see the sorted laundry that needs to be doing, and probably change the cat litter. That done, I’d let them in and treat them like a friend. They’re my favourite celebrity for the work they do, so I won’t pretend I really know who they are. If they’re coming to my house I’d like to think that that was an opportunity to get to know them. I’d offer coffee or something.

03. If you could save time in a bottle, what time(s) would you save?

A certain dinner date in Nanaimo. A moment on the top of mount Tzouhalem. A sunset and a thunderstorm on Maple Bay beach. A certain post-grad summer that involved playgrounds and camping trips and nights at the river. A road trip to Hornby Island, and to Osoyoos. A certain night on the town with J. A moment in the kitchen where I told J I loved him for the first time. Our first date.

04. Look around you. First, tell us what room you’re in. Now, name the first red thing you see … likewise blue, and yellow.

Red pen, blue CD, yellow post-it, green book… etc.

05. If you had a peephole in your head, what might people see when they peep in?

Chaos. My mental secretary has taken in unexpected leave of absence, and she’s hired a kangaroo from a questionable temp agency to fill in while she’s gone.

Wednesday Mind Hump – Week 39

This Hump Day we celebrate adventure, intrigue and romance. No, we’re not talking about blog drama — we’re talking Soap Opera Day! October 6th marks the premiere of the first soap opera in 1946, The Faraway Hill. Let’s all raise our box of bon-bons and say hip-hip-hooray for 58 years of the best escape from vacuuming, laundry and all other forms of domestic drudgery … that is until blogging came along. And speaking of blogging …. let’s warm up for some Wednesday Mind Humpin’ !

In soap opera, everyone’s “entrance” into a scene is accompanied by a song or sound effect — If music or a sound effect played whenever you walked into a room, what would that sound effect be?

Trampoline by The Wild Strawberries… “baby give that quiver to me, I can shoot an arrow through anything…”

Put your thinkin’ caps on — it’s time to do the Mind Hump. This week a little “getting to know you” fun with a crazy twist.

01. If you could have a compartment (like a glove compartment) installed on your person, where would you have it installed and what would you keep in it (other than things you would keep in your wallet or purse)?

I don’t know where I’d put it, maybe my forehead, but I know what I’d keep in it – all those random little thoughts that I get during the day that I can never remember long enough to write down in a book. If I put them in this little compartment, they’d automatically get printed on sticky-notes.

02. A local university has asked you to teach a class about the one thing you know the most about. What would you be teaching and what would the name of the course be?

This is hard, because I don’t think I’m an expert on anything, really. But I might have to teach a class called “animals are people too” and talk about the evidence that animals have emotions or connections in a similar fashion to human beings, and that they respond better to positive treatment, just like people.

03. Commercials … they can make us laugh or can annoy the heck out of us. Tell us about your favorite commercial and/or a commercial you simply loathe.

My favourite commercial at the moment is that car commercial where you see a van parked, and a couple of boxes come down the ramp, and then the next box has the delivery guy in it pretending to drive a car down the ramp. The one I hate is another car commercial, where the guy stops to help the chick with the flat tire and he’s got a whole pit team in the trunk.

04. If we were to tiptoe into your room while you were sleeping, what position are we likely to find you in, on what side of the bed and are you a snorer, drooler, a sleep talker or sleep walker?

On my left side in a semi-fetal position, either in the centre of the bed or on the edge, depending on whether or not J’s being a bedhog or not. I know I drool in my sleep sometimes, and I also have been told that I often sleep talk.

05. “Snips and snails and puppy dogs tails – that’s what little boys are made of. Sugar and spice and everything nice – that’s what little girls are made of.” Besides those things mentioned above, what are some of things you personally might be made of?

cat hair, printers ink, chocolate, paper, hugs, giggles, music, words…
