If ever a day felt like a Monday, this was it. I suppose some of it was my own fault. I stayed up too late again (book!)and slept through the first two of my four alarms and only just got out the door at the regular time, only to realize that today is the first day of school. At least it is for the Universities and the Colleges – it seems the school district is still locked in “negotiations” as they have been since before the summer break even started. *eyeroll* It’s a circus that is and one for another rant at another time.
Anyway, circus aside, the bus schedule had changed and I hadn’t really paid that much attention because, for the 14 years or so that I have lived in this city, they have never altered the route I live on. So when a 15 stopped at my stop rather than a 6, I didn’t get on. Up until today, the 15 has been an express that misses the general area I work in. So a few minutes later, when there is no 6 forthcoming I look it up online and it turns out that’s the one I should have taken. Of course, the route is a little screwed up – it no longer drops me a convenient block from my work, I now have to walk 4 blocks. I know, not a huge deal (#firstworldproblems), but it’s a bit of a piss off when the bus actually DOES go past my old stop. It just doesn’t stop because it is an express from that point.
So I arrive at work late which means whoever it is that makes the shitty coffee got there before me. Rather than drink the shitty coffee, I went to Starbucks and treated myself to a mocha. (Gawd, I know I’m supposed to be limiting my sugar intake but ssssh.) I just did not have the patience for shitty coffee, or to go without and tea was not going to cut it either.
I spent the first couple of hours doing updates for the database which turned out to be a stupid idea. I should know better than to do that when I’m mildly PMS’y because every time I see a mistake I need to fix it which means I could spend the entire day working on it (and not get anywhere!). So I forced myself to only do the required updates and then did the regular stuff. Mostly I avoided having to hear about MQ’s gastrointestinal issues non-stop and BP was “training” a new person so I didn’t get her brain dump either. I think my “touch me and die” vibe was evident because most people left me alone for the most part, which is what I wanted.
For a total of about a half hour it actually rained. It hasn’t really rained since May, so it was nice. Even when it got torrential and drenched the SO on his way over. There was even a little bit of thunder and lightening. THAT was nifty. I like thunder and lightening and we do not get very much of that here.
Just another boring day in my little rut!
